scaleLIT - Digital Navigator 2023 (LitMN)

scaleLIT (formerly Chicago Citywide Literacy Coalition (CCLC)) helps Chicago’s adult education organizations secure resources and training so that underserved adult learners can become economically successful. scaleLIT members represent a diverse portfolio of programs and services, and serve 30,000+ individuals yearly. Their learners consist of immigrants, refugees, returning citizens and individuals experiencing homelessness. scaleLIT’s member organizations are primarily located on the south and west sides where the need for adult basic education and digital literacy skills is great. scaleLIT’s digital programming exists to address the digital divide in Illinois which has been exacerbated by the pandemic. The Illinois Digital Learning Lab (IDLL) provides capacity to educators in a model that recognizes and celebrates the diversity of learners across our state and reaches communities most impacted by digital exclusion with individualized instruction. Because educational technology can be customizable and motivate learners, the effective use of edtech provides extraordinary, empowering opportunities for learners and educators. Introducing new tools can be a challenging process for organizations. scaleLIT would like to offer computer literacy classes, digital learning resources and tools, community-supported digital inclusion and computer reuse programs, job exposure and community engagement. This project will explore the Digital Divide and its related causes. It will examine digital learning, identify areas of greatest need and implement programs to aid in community development. scaleLIT will develop learning circles and communities of action that are not just concerned with the cost of computers but also the presence of widespread illiteracy among overlooked populations. *Position is part of the Literacy Leadership AmeriCorps VISTA program of Literacy Minnesota (LitMN). Literacy Minnesota fosters an organizational culture that is welcoming and inclusive to all.
