Brilliant Detroit - Digital Literacy Fellow (LitMN)

Brilliant Detroit creates “kid success neighborhoods” where families with children ages 0-8 have what they need to be school-ready, healthy and stable. We do this by repurposing vacant homes into neighborhood hubs that offer literacy, education, health and neighborhood-based programming to families with children. We exist to assure that kids have positive outcomes around family literacy, reading, health and well-being, and that children and families have opportunities for success not defined by their zip code. Prior to COVID-19, the City of Detroit estimated that 70% of Detroit’s children lived in homes without a wired broadband connection. We saw this statistic in its truest sense when the pandemic hit our families. Forced to transition to “school at home,” many of our families were unprepared, lacking stable, reliable internet or sufficient devices. The digital divide became an important area we needed to address. While we started to lay a foundation for this important work, an AmeriCorps VISTA Fellow would help us continue to move the needle forward to end the digital divide. *Position is part of the Literacy Leadership AmeriCorps VISTA program of Literacy Minnesota (LitMN). Literacy Minnesota fosters an organizational culture that is welcoming and inclusive to all. Applications reviewed on rolling basis until filled. ANTICIPATED START DATES: 10/23, 11/6 or 11/20.
