Butterfly Dreams Farm 2023- UGA VISTA Network_Teleservice

Butterfly Dreams Farm Therapeutic Riding Program (BDF) is a nonprofit organization in Watkinsville, GA (near Athens) that utilizes horses as therapy partners for children and adults with disabilities. Our horses play a crucial role in meeting therapeutic goals that are unique to each rider. BDF delivers both hippotherapy (therapy on horseback) to support speech or occupational therapy, and therapeutic riding services, during which the horse enhances the physical, emotional, social, cognitive, behavioral, and educational skills of riders with disabilities. As a small nonprofit, our volunteers are crucial to the success of BDF. Volunteers assist in a variety of ways including side walking and horse leading during the sessions, tacking and grooming horses, assisting therapists, and simple barn maintenance. The AmeriCorps member will help with volunteer recruitment, training, and support, as well as fundraising. This position is part of the University of Georgia's AmeriCorps VISTA network and may permit teleservice for at least part of the year.
