Achievement Member - Higher Achievement (22-23)

Talent is everywhere, but opportunity is not. Higher Achievement staff and programs connect scholars from across the District to the resources, opportunities, and encouragement that makes a difference in high school completion and college and post-secondary attainment. We do this through programming that focuses on academic gains and high school readiness, all through the lens of strong relationships and social justice: *Our scholars are offered academic literacy support and homework help to support in-school gains during afterschool hours. *High school readiness mentoring uses community volunteers to work with scholars to build confidence and set-goals to apply and enroll in their best fit high school program. *Because the majority of our scholars identify as students of color and to reflect the vibrant city we work in, our programs also create space for cultural reflection, discussion, and learning. Scholars are in the program from 5th-8th grade and commit for a full school year, so staff, scholars, and families build strong relationships that lead to strong results. On average, 95% of our scholars graduate from high school on-time, compared to the 2021 DC average of 71%. Higher Achievement offers 3 AmeriCorps positions: Achievement Member (this position); Volunteer and Scholar Recruitment Member; and Program Support Member. Applicants can apply to more than one of our open AmeriCorps roles in separate applications.
