21-22 Wa He Lut Indian School Learning Assistance Program
 
 
 
Our AmeriCorps tutors would become, with training and daily supervision, intervention and small group tutors. Children are tutored in 5 groups of less than 4 students (A.M. and P.M.) of 40 minutes each and possibly one on one if indicated. All member activities are supported with the same training our teachers receive and will be supervised daily by the Reading Specialist (Site Supervisor) and Academic Coach. Our LAP coordinator (full time instructional staff member) works as a full time team tutoring coordinator in the LAP lab. Our Americorps tutors have the advantage of several highly qualified staff members to mentor their activities to benefit our students. Our tutors will: Be a mentor/tutor for children needing individualized help. Support the classroom curriculum, facilitate small group instruction, and help supervise cultural activities. Help Wa He Lut students to participate as performers or participants in community events. Share paperwork responsibilities for program participants (AIMSWEB Benchmarking and Pacing Guides). Participate in team meetings (PLC), Professional Development Training, and participant grouping Recruit parent/guardian volunteers for cultural activities and the classroom program.

Member Duties : The mission of Wa He Lut Indian School is to provide a safe and culturally relevant environment that empowers Native Learners and embraces the traditional teachings and values of respect, responsibility, and pride. Our AmeriCorps tutors for our Learning Assistant Program give our students the opportunity to reach their and their community's academic goals while allowing them the priviledge of attending a school dedicated to their traditional values. In adition to their tutoring responsibilities, Americorps Members will be invited to participate in and support Native American celebrations, performances, and community activities.
