Serve with the City of Tempe Office of Sustainability as a part of the HandsOn VISTA Team! ABOUT THE SITE AND THE ROLE: See ‘Members Duties’ section below. ABOUT HandsOn Greater Phoenix: For over 25 years, HandsOn Greater Phoenix has worked with nonprofits, Title I schools, neighborhood associations and government entities to assess and meet the volunteer needs of the Greater Phoenix area. The HandsOn VISTA program supports 20~ VISTA members at multiple placement sites across the valley. Our VISTA members enable our community service partners to expand capacity and build lasting infrastructure by creating the processes and tools needed to effectively access and utilize valuable resources. HandsOn VISTA members will improve their own capacity for leading communities during and beyond their terms of service by developing their knowledge, skills, and abilities related to volunteer mobilization, civic engagement, and other areas. In addition to the site-specific work of the individual role all of our VISTA members: participate in 2 AmeriCorps National Days of Service, lead projects at 2 HandsOn community service days, attend monthly VISTA team trainings with the other HandsOn VISTA members, and lead a monthly community volunteering opportunity. Member Duties : Join the City of Tempe to launch a unique form of student engagement that develops leaders & helps create a better quality of life for those disproportionately affected by climate change! Along with the City Office of Sustainability the successful applicant will help empower youth to make their communities more sustainable and become leaders in Tempe’s green economy by developing a program structure that creates a green job pipeline. This position will offer a unique experience to network and learn city processes along with insight into heat equity research developed by ASU. The successful applicant should: be able to demonstrate an awareness and sensitivity to the needs and concerns of individuals from diverse cultures and backgrounds; and have experience building, nurturing and maintaining diverse and effective collaborations. Preferred but not required: Spanish proficiency; experience working with underserved Tempe populations; knowledge of valley sustainability programs/community
