4-H CAPITAL inspires youth to develop into inquiring scientists, citizens of character, partners in service, and engaged community members through participation in project-based learning experiences and collaborative community involvement. 4-H CAPITAL provides engaging after school and summer-camp enrichment programs in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), primarily serving youth in Title I school districts in the Austin area. Our hands-on, inquiry-based activities are designed to inspire creativity, critical thinking, and problem solving, while helping youth develop social and leadership skills. By establishing positive relationships with the youth we serve, 4-H CAPITAL helps youth appreciate learning, build character, and develop life skills that will enable them to become self-directing and productive community members. AmeriCorps Members will: • Develop proficiency in teaching and leading groups of youth of up to 16 students • Develop and deliver out-of-school science classes, supervision, behavior management systems and lessons • Communicate with other AmeriCorps Members, 4-H CAPITAL staff and school administrators • Implement & plan 4-H CAPITAL curriculum enrichment & community outreach in the schools and surrounding community • Assist in gathering and reporting data for evaluation purposes • Keep attendance records of 4-H CAPITAL classes • Willingness to work in an office environment that houses animals • Wear AmeriCorps logo while serving hours • Acquire, organize and distribute teaching materials as necessary • Curriculum development including editing and supplementing 4-H CAPITAL lesson bank • Reflect on service to the community and students through journaling and group discussions • Participation in assigned morning assignment team • Participation in Life After AmeriCorps Training and professional development opportunities For more information visit www.4-hcapital.org or www.facebook.com/4-hcapital

Member Duties : 4-H CAPITAL AmeriCorps members teach hands-on science activities in school setting at Title I elementary and middle schools in the Austin, TX area. Members serve at-risk youth during school time and afterschool by providing hands-on, project based science programs in four core areas (Animal Science, Youth Gardening, Natural Resources, and Engineering). Members develop semester unit plans for each of their lead classes using a combination of predetermined lessons and lessons they create. Typical Full Time service hours are 9:00am - 6:00pm, Mon - Fri with an additional 40 hours of volunteer required. Members will work at a single school site throughout the semester (mileage is reimbursed between work sites). Fridays are used for planning, team meetings, service and program reporting, and trainings.
