Member Duties : The Shorebird Education Program directly aligns to the National Wildlife Refuge System mission. The member will recruit 3rd and 4th grade teachers in Grays Harbor County to participate in a series of 6 classroom presentations, a field trip to the refuge, and a 7th presentation after the field trip. The member will handle all scheduling and teach the different lessons. The first presentations will be completed by the end of the calendar year and continue through April. Field trips are April - May during the spring shorebird migration. A follow-up presentation for each class will take place mid-May through the end of the school year. Students will receive a journal at the first presentation. In the journal they are asked to follow-up with the lessons by answering questions, doing drawings, and writing reflections. This tool provides continuity and gives students something to keep. In schools, member will provide guidance, model lessons, and support the teachers in journal activities.
