23-24 Puget Soundkeeper Alliance Education/Stewardship Coord

This is an AmeriCorps national service position. It is contingent on funding and open until filled. Puget Soundkeeper Alliance (Soundkeeper) is a non-profit organization formed in 1984 and based in Seattle, Washington, that aims to protect and enhance the ecological health of Puget Sound and its surrounding watersheds. Puget Soundkeeper is part of the Waterkeeper Alliance, a worldwide organization made up of over 350 waterkeepers dedicated to protecting their local bodies of water. Communities surrounding Puget Sound are in need of water pollution education and hands-on engagement activities. Our goal is to create active community members that are involved in critical water quality issues. The AmeriCorps member will help achieve this goal by engaging with the public through our volunteer/outreach and engagement events. Specifically, the member will (1) recruit, train, and lead volunteers in on-water kayak cleanups, shoreline/park cleanups, and community science efforts such as microplastic monitoring and salmon pre-spawn mortality surveys (2) support Soundkeeper's outreach and education activities through formal and informal presentations and tabling opportunities.
