'21-'22 Community Outreach VISTA

More than 1.8 million visits are made to food pantries in Pierce County each year. Emergency Food Network (EFN) aids these visits by distributing more than 17 million pounds of food to the 70+ programs it serves. EFN leverages resources to ensure that each time a community member walks into a food program, they walk out with enough food for nine meals. This work would not be possible without help from community partners and volunteers. EFN has more than 180 partners that host EFN Food & Fund Drives and 2,000 volunteers each year. Volunteers repackage bulk foods, pull weeds and harvest fresh produce at EFN’s Mother Earth Farm, support a variety of roles at our fundraising events, and perform behind-the-scene tasks in our office, all in an effort to distribute more nutritious food to our neighbors in need.

Member Duties : This VISTA project will build capacity in Emergency Food Network's volunteer and outreach programs by increasing the number and retention of volunteers at the Repack Project, Mother Earth Farm, EFN’s Community Garden, and EFN fundraising events. Conducting this outreach involves researching online calendars and volunteer posting sites, tabling at community events, constructing e-newsletters, writing highlights about programs, posting on social media, and more. This VISTA will work closely with the Volunteer and Activities Coordinator to manage donor and volunteer databases, and assist with managing volunteers.
