Campus Kitchen AmeriCorps VISTA

Campus Kitchen is a food recovery and redistribution program administered by the UGA Office of Service-Learning in collaboration with Athens area nonprofits and University of Georgia partners. Each week, working in two donated kitchen spaces, UGA student leaders manage volunteer activities ranging from food recovery from local grocery stores and farmer’s markets, from-scratch cooking shifts, and door-to-door meal and grocery deliveries to client families in aging services programs of the area nonprofits, among other distribution programs. While participating in the program, student leaders are exposed to the challenges facing aging adults and families, aging service providers and the food system. Campus Kitchen reaches nearly 500 food-insecure individuals through monthly programs, in addition to special holiday events. The Campus Kitchen at UGA strives to inspire sustainable solutions to hunger and food waste and build mutually beneficial university-community partnerships. This position is part of the University of Georgia's AmeriCorps VISTA network.
