Stewards VISTA: WCU Business School - Career Success

This non-traditional Internship Program will have its roots in the Gunnison Valley. Partnering with Gunnison’s businesses/organizations/non-profits to identify needs to help them grown into sustainable entities. These needs will be turned into different types of paid learning experiences to be filled by Western School of Business students. Enabling these entities to thrive will create jobs - helping the Gunnison economy transition away from legacy mining. In addition, this Internship Program will prepare Western School of Business students for the college to career transition. Past salary surveys how Western graduates well below the national salary average. This Internship Program will equip our students with the experience needed to compete for the higher paying jobs - jobs filled by students at more advantaged universities. In addition to working with local businesses, this Program will expand to the Front Range and beyond, giving our students to option to explore different learning experiences outside the Valley. Lastly, because the VISTA will be creating this Internship Program with guidelines, a handbook and website - this project will be sustainable after the VISTA’s time is complete.
