Stewards VISTA: Groundwork Mobile County

The Green Team is a Groundwork Mobile County program tasked with turning blighted properties, opens spaces, and local waterways into community-based assets. Mobile County high school students, ages 14 – 18, are hired to perform work in the areas of environmental conservation and education in the County’s Communities of Priority. Program participants work throughout the year on a number of local environmental initiatives such as community gardening and urban agriculture developments, clean waterways initiatives, data collection activities, and community engagement through paid and unpaid service-learning projects to help revitalize our most vulnerable communities. The Green Team members participate in job training, classroom instruction, field work, guest lectures, field trips, and data collection/research activities to learn about and promote environmental awareness within the communities they serve.
