City of Alexandria Volunteer Coordinator

The VISTA member will fight poverty by creating a recruitment process for volunteers who will work to improve reading literacy in 1st through 3rd graders so that it will not become a barrier later in life to create more opportunities for achievement in life which will bring them and their family out of poverty. To help ensure that children of 1st through 3rd grade from low-income communities receive the education support they need to break the cycle of poverty in the future, the VISTA project will build the capacity to preform one-on-one sessions by developing a sustainable volunteer recruitment and management system for its volunteering program at North Bayou and Martin Park elementary schools.
