23-24 Immanuel Community Services Grocery Rescue Lead

This is an Americorps national service position. This position is contingent upon funding and open until filled. Immanuel Community Services (ICS) is the longest running social service agency in the South Lake Union neighborhood of Seattle. Our mission is to alleviate the effects of poverty, hunger, homelessness, and addiction by providing community-based social services to those in need. We do this through our four programs: a weekly Food Bank, feeding anyone experiencing hunger with no restrictions & no questions asked; a daily Hygiene Center, for our unsheltered neighbors in-need of a shower, laundry, a hot meal, supportive services, and respite from the elements; a clean & sober Emergency Shelter for homeless men participating in intensive outpatient treatment; and finally, a robust meal program, serving 25-30,000 meals per year. As a result of COVID-19, demand for food has increased dramatically and challenged our capability to meet that need with current staffing. The AmeriCorps Service Member will focus on our Grocery Rescue and Home Delivery programs to strengthen our capacity to meet the growing need, as well as, helping to source more culturally appropriate food for our guests. The Grocery Rescue program collects donated food from area partners and local grocery stores and prepares the food for distribution at Food Bank. The AmeriCorps Service Member will assist the Food Services Coordinator in the efficient operation of the ICS Food Bank, Home Delivery program, and preparing and serving meals.
