Mentoring Program Coordinator VCU African American Alumni
The African American Alumni Council (AAAC) is an affinity organization that is a part of the VCU Office of Alumni Relations. Part of the mission of VCU Alumni's African American Alumni Council is to promote and contribute to the recruitment and retention of African American students, particularly those who have been affected by poverty. The AAAC Mentoring Circle is a program initiated, sponsored and supported by the members of the AAAC to mentor current African-American students at VCU. African-American alumni of VCU are invited to return to campus and virtually to meet African-American undergraduate students with similar professional interests to establish an e-mentor/mentor relationship. The alumni should provide guidance, encourage a standard of excellence, train for leadership, develop skills and talent, and demonstrate how what is learned in the classroom can apply in the real world. The ultimate goal of these mentoring relationships is to help students improve their chances to secure an internship, an apprenticeship or a job upon graduation. Build a more equitable community by recruiting mentors and creating sustainable, research-based mentoring program policy and processes. The VISTA Member will work closely with the staff of the VCU Alumni office and the African American Alumni Council in order to create recruiting, training, and sustainability measures. The VISTA Member will coordinate recruitment events, create and train staff on training for volunteers and participants. Create and implement evaluative practices to track recruitment and volunteer retention in order to help with program sustainability. Research and implement a fundraiser and donor management system. Assist in the coordination of fundraising events and preparation of grants.
