AmeriCorps Community Training (ACT) Program

The AmeriCorps Community Training for Overdose Rescue (ACT) program of Wayne State University seeks to stop opioid and heroin overdose deaths in Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties. It is vital that those most likely to encounter an overdose emergency – such as employees of local businesses, security personnel, neighborhood safety groups, community organizations and service-providing agencies, and people who use opioids and their friends, family members, and neighbors – are prepared to recognize the signs of an overdose emergency and respond to provide lie-saving aid while waiting for EMS to arrive. ACT team members organize and deliver overdose rescue preparedness training for community members – teaching participants how to perform CPR and administer Narcan (an easy-to-use nasal spray that can stop overdose symptoms). *HOW TO BECOME AN OVERDOSE RESCUE TRAINER* Enrollment for our program is ongoing with part-time opportunities available (about 20 hours per week over a six month term). Applicants can choose from several possible start dates, which are scheduled throughout the year. The tentative start dates and corresponding application deadlines for the 2020-21 program year are listed below. You may submit an application any time and indicate your preferred term on your application. --- Winter term: January 4-June 27, 2021 (apply by 11/13/2020) --- Spring term: March 15-August 22, 2021 (apply by 2/5/2021) --- Summer term: June 14-December 12, 2021 (apply by 5/14/2021) --- Fall term: August 23, 2021-March 6, 2022 (apply by 7/23/2021). NOTE: All service activities are conducted virtually/remote during the COVID-19 pandemic to protect the health of our team and community members. *LEARN MORE* Visit StopOverdoseDeaths.org to apply and to find more details about the ACT program.
