Austin Mayor's Office VISTA
 
 
 
The AmeriCorps VISTA in the City of Austin’s Mayor’s Office will increase capacity in key priorities of the mayor’s office. The work will focus on three primary initiatives: the Mayor’s Challenge to Prevent Suicide Among Veterans, Service Members, and their Families; the establishment of a community-wide strategic partnerships vehicle between the Mayor’s Office, City Manager’s Office, and Community Stakeholders; and developing pilot programs for housing and service delivery for people experiencing homelessness in the Austin community.

Member Duties : Work with partner groups to develop a plan to reduce suicide among Service Members, Veterans, and their Families (SMVF) in service to the Austin Mayor’s Challenge. Develop and implement a strategy to roll out the Mayor’s Challenge to Prevent Suicide Among SMVF into a self-sustaining entity. Create a digital hub for resources and career opportunities for veterans. Develop a collaboration program between the City of Austin and community stakeholders. Provide capacity support to develop the infrastructure for public-private partnerships to serve as stakeholders in the community collaboration program. Continue to expand the work of the Corporate Engagement Council with a specific emphasis on strategic planning. Develop pilot interventions for people experiencing homelessness that will coordinate homelessness services, build efficiency and effectiveness in serving the vulnerable population of Austin, and establish new interventions that support people experiencing homelessness.
