IM Houston Nonprofit Partnership & Outreach VISTA ,OneStar

Interfaith Ministries (IM) of Greater Houston’s mission is to bring people of diverse faith traditions together for dialogue, collaboration, and service, as a demonstration of shared beliefs. IM has four core programs: Meals on Wheels/Animeals, Refugee Resettlement, Interfaith Relations and Community Partnerships (IRCP), and Volunteer Houston. Volunteer Houston (VH) serves 13 counties in the Gulf Coast Region of Texas. One of those counties – Harris – is where VH currently provides most of its services. We have an obligation to serve the nonprofits, schools, government agencies and volunteers in the 12 surrounding counties who are in need of volunteers in the same way we serve those within Harris County. The Nonprofit Partnership and Outreach VISTA will build and maintain our ability to support and serve agencies and volunteers in the 12 outlying counties. The VISTA will serve VH partner nonprofits, who in turn serve community members in need.

Member Duties : The Nonprofit Partnership and Outreach VISTA will research and compile a list of nonprofits, corporations, schools, government entities (collectively referred to as agencies) in each of the surrounding counties with a focus on agencies that address poverty in the counties they serve. Strategize effective ways to connect & engage Volunteer Houston (VH) with agencies virtually & in-person. Develop an internal “Adopt a County” initiative designed to be facilitated by the VH Advisory Council & VH staff for the goal of recruiting additional agencies & volunteers to 1) address community needs of reducing poverty and 2) expand corporate social responsibility visions. The VISTA member will also create an action plan that can be repeated on an annual basis and includes regular relationship building events/meetings/ initiatives between VH, new volunteers/county residents and agencies identified through research conducted.
