AmeriCorps Nutrition Education Coordinator
 
 
 
The AmeriCorps member will use the American Heart Association’s Healthy for Life education program designed to change behaviors regarding food and nutrition. The AmeriCorps member will demonstrate cooking techniques and prepare delicious and healthy food with the help of volunteers, enabling clients to acquire new skills to prepare more nutritious meals. The AmeriCorps member will provide culturally relevant healthy recipes to clients, increase their level of comfort with healthy foods, & educate clients on budgeting and shopping for healthy foods * "The AmeriCorps Volunteer will be using Healthy for Life® 20 By 20 Program. This is a community-based nutrition and well-being program created by Aramark and the American Heart Association to empower people to make healthy food and lifestyle choices that come through Catholic Charities Food Pantry. The AmeriCorps Volunteer will have interactive components such as demonstrations on healthy cooking, shopping skills, proper nutrition and heart health. Resulting in increased: • Fruit and vegetable consumption • Frequency of choosing wholegrains • Confidence in ability to improve their health • Confidence in ability to prepare healthy meals at home

Member Duties : The AmeriCorps member will work primarily out of the agency's food pantry, the agency will train the member on the daily activities needed to help the food pantry run smoothly. The AmeriCorps member will learn how the agency interacts with the families to supply them with their basic nutritional needs. The AmeriCorps member will also receive an initial overview orientation on Catholic Charities and the services it provides as a whole to the community. The AmeriCorps member will use the Healthy For Life Facilitator Orientation provided by American Heart Association to learn and understand how to become facilitator.
