Disaster Education Weather Ready Agriculture VISTA

In recent years, disasters and extreme weather have impacted Nebraskans’ ways of life. For vulnerable populations, facing a disaster or extreme weather event can result in reduced income, limited access to services, and increased stress. The mission of Nebraska Extension is “Helping Nebraskans enhance their lives through research-based education.” We are the public outreach and engagement branch of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and we develop and deliver meaningful educational resources and experiences to people of all ages. We have robust portfolios of projects in agriculture, human sciences, and community development, and we are growing the disaster education portfolio. The Disaster Education Weather Ready Agriculture VISTA will manage projects that foster preparedness and resilience in farmers. The VISTA will support the expansion of two projects by developing and implementing strategies for program delivery, evaluation, and to secure program funding. We are looking for someone who is passionate about production agriculture and transforming lives through education. We seek a candidate who has strong communication skills (verbal and written) and experience in grant/technical writing. Our ideal member is ready to tackle exciting challenges, able to think critically and solve problems creatively, able to turn ideas into realities, has a can-do attitude, and likes working independently and collaboratively. The VISTA will work in an engaging educational environment, collaborate with university experts and partners, build their professional network, and participate in professional development to grow and support a useful skillset. The start date is 1/18/2021, and the end date is 1/17/2022. This position is located in Lincoln, the state capital, which is a vibrant university town with plenty to offer in the arts, recreation, education, and culture. For more information, contact Ashley Mueller, ashley.mueller@unl.edu, 402-472-2561.
