Climate Change Communications Specialist
 
 
 
This position is offered through the DLNR's AmeriCorps VISTA Program with support from the Corporation for National and Community Service. Disasters and other climate change events can often push vulnerable communities into a downward spiral of poverty from which they may never recover. The Climate Change Communications Specialist will support the efforts of the Hawaii Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Commission’s (“Commission”) to provide critical information to vulnerable communities across the State about flooding due to climate change and sea level rise impacts on their community and individual assets; and help them plan for and recover from such disasters and events.

Member Duties : Member Duties : 1: Contribute to the development of an Information Hub for sea level rise impacts and risks, climate science, flooding due to sea level rise, erosion, and other impacts to vulnerable communities and their assets 2: Together with state, local and private partners, develop accompanying social media information tools to provide science information in plain language, to reach out to ALICE and vulnerable communities and their organizations. Coordinate with the Climate Ready cohort, and other community partners to implement the communications strategy 3: Contribute to the development of communications tools such as press kits, briefings and presentations for sea level rise impacts and associated climate change risks to vulnerable communities. 4: Coordinate specific event-based mini-campaigns with community partners to raise awareness of the effects of sea level rise on vulnerable communities’ assets.
