City of Salinas Homelessness Prevention Coordinator
 
 
 
The City of Salinas’ mission is to create a safe, healthy, prosperous, vibrant, and equitable Salinas through targeted revitalization, sustainable policies, and well-designed land uses and programs that facilitate a high quality of life and encourages community growth and partnerships. The Alisal is located on the Salinas’ East side and is home to a majority-minority population that is 96% Hispanic or Latino, with 33 percent of its residents living in poverty, compared to 21 percent of Salinas residents overall. The AVP, PRLMP and EDD plans are community driven plans that communicate the collective vision of residents and strategies for on-going collaboration and partnership between the City and community in addressing issues and opportunities specific to the Alisal. The Alisal Engagement Support Team, comprised of five VISTA members, who will work together on multifaceted strategies to alleviate poverty in Salinas’ Alisal neighborhood by focusing on Housing Production, Homeless Prevention and Housing Protections, Small Business Support.

Member Duties : The Alisal Homelessness Prevention VISTA will actively tackle poverty and homelessness-related issues in the Alisal(ANSRA) through policy research, housing strategies, stakeholder engagement, and capacity building of local non-profits to respond to short and long-term action on homelessness, building capacity of the City in implementation of the five-year lead me home action plan to address homelessness with a focus on family homelessness and a data driven approach. As part of the overall work, the VISTA will assist the City in implementing the Lead me Home Action Plan compiling an action plan specifically geared towards ending homelessness to be incorporated into the future Housing Element.
