City of Salinas Small Business Support Associate
 
 
 
The selected AmeriCorps member will work closely with City staff and consultants supporting small businesses and entrepreneurs that are predominantly Latinx and historically have struggled to receive resources, particularly in the Alisal neighborhood. The Alisal is located on the Salinas’ East area and is home to a majority-minority population that is 94 percent Hispanic or Latino. The Alisal Plan is a community driven planning process that communicates the collective vision of the residents and strategies for on-going collaboration and partnership between the City and community in addressing issues and opportunities specific to the Alisal. The Alisal Plan Support Team, comprised of five VISTA members, will work together on multifaceted strategies to alleviate poverty in the Alisal neighborhood by focusing on Economic Opportunity, Housing, Education and Literacy, and Healthy Futures.

Member Duties : The Small Business Support VISTA will actively tackle projects to implement economic development recommendations from the Alisal Vibrancy Plan and the Blueprint for Relief, Recovery, and Resiliency that support small businesses impacted by the pandemic related economic downturn and that promote the Alisal as an attractive shopping destination. The purpose of the AmeriCorps Vista Small business support is to provide students of graduate and undergraduate programs with professional economic development experience in a public sector organization. This program is intended to provide one year of full time Volunteer experience. Upon the student's completion of the one service year, the applicant should have adequate training and experience necessary for an entry-level economic development position within the public sector.
