Community Engagement and Communications Specialist
 
 
 
This position is offered through the DLNR's AmeriCorps VISTA Program with support from the Corporation for National and Community Service. The position will help HSEO develop targeted outreach initiatives to better inform, educate and engage vulnerable communities in energy project decision-making and access to energy conservation and clean energy resources to lower costs, increase living wage employment, and improve health and welfare outcomes. Underserved communities are often the least able to engage with decision-makers and are frequently the most vulnerable to carry the project development and energy cost burden in reaching the state’s clean energy goals. These communities can be lifted out of poverty when they have equal access to fundamental resources including reliable, affordable electricity, clean transportation options new living wage employment opportunities.

Member Duties : 1: The position will support the HSEO in planning and execution of industry stakeholder and impacted community engagements to ensure all voices are considered and the needs of vulnerable and underrepresented communities are addressed. The VISTA will enhance the HSEO’s capacity to identify community priorities, facilitate clean energy discussions, develop targeted communications and identify tools for both community members and the state to assess community engagement impacts. 2: The position will support the HSEO in developing its new website, web platform tools, and online community forum to effectively and consistently communicate Hawaii’s collective energy vision while providing a channel to hear vulnerable and underrepresented communities’ priorities and concerns.
