AZ Refugee Resettlement- Women's Empowerment (3rd Year)

The Arizona Refugee Resettlement Program (RRP) VISTA Project’s mission is to support refugees’ effective resettlement in Arizona. Refugees face a wide variety of difficult challenges in achieving self-sufficiency. These challenges include such issues as becoming familiar with their new country, securing an affordable place to live, learning about resources available to assist them in resettlement, finding and retaining employment, acquiring a new language, and learning how to access public health and behavioral health medical services. The Refugee Women's Empowerment VISTA assignment will be placed at Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest in Phoenix and will work to improve and grow their Women's Empowerment Program (WEP). This position is a hybrid work setting where the VISTA will have the opportunity to work from home (virtually) and work in-person (office). An ideal candidate will have experience in working cross-culturally, social media management, marketing, shows familiarity with contemporary women's issues, and has a strong desire to work with immigrant populations. The VISTA will work to expand the capacity of the Women’s Empowerment Program (WEP) by developing resources for the Etsy store, intern and volunteer opportunities, and other women’s programming. This VISTA assignment will improve the quality of services available to refugee women in Arizona.

Member Duties : As this is the final VISTA year in this project the VISTA will work to wrap up and transfer over the programs developed to expand the employment opportunities of refugee women and outreach of the WEP Etsy store RefugeeMade to the WEP Coordinator. RefugeeMade is a store that sells handmade goods produced by refugee women in the program which allows for the women to be financially self-sufficient. Through building connections with local community colleges and universities the Women's Empowerment VISTA will help to grow the WEP volunteer and intern network to strengthen ties to the local community and onboard more of those who can in turn also help support and grow the program. Lastly, the VISTA will work to support the WEP Coordinator through the research, development, and implementation of new and existing WEP programming.
