Volunteer and Impact Coordinator VISTA (Asheville, NC)

The Western Region Office of Catholic Charities Diocese of Charlotte in Asheville, NC serves people in need in the 12 westernmost counties of North Carolina through the agency’s programs, which include food pantry services, diaper ministry, case management coordination, bilingual clinical mental health counseling, refugee resettlement, burial assistance, immigration services, financial assistance, and holiday assistance. The agency’s goal is to break the cycle of poverty through enhanced service provision by our staff, interns, and volunteers who provide direct services for people in need. The VISTA Volunteer and Impact Coordinator will supplement their efforts to build capacity and sustainability in the Western Region Office and alleviate poverty through the development of systems, processes, coordination, and resources that will enhance the agency’s ability to serve people in need. This VISTA position is a part of Catholic Charities USA’s Family Strengthening Program, a national intermediary project. As a member, you will meet virtually with VISTA Leaders and other VISTAs serving throughout the country, all focused on alleviating poverty. In North Carolina, 12.8% of residents live below the poverty line. The VISTA will improve the agency’s ability to help people who are struggling with food insecurity and an inability to provide diapers, toiletries, hygiene products, and other supplies for their families. According to our agency partner, MANNA FoodBank, more than 100,000 people every year in western North Carolina face an empty plate. In 2022, the food pantry at the Western Region Office of Catholic Charities served 3,372 people. Last year, the Western Region Office also helped 113 people with financial assistance, 53 people with licensed clinical mental health counseling, 124 people with immigration services, 277 people with holiday assistance, 65 people with burial assistance, 153 people with emergency clothing and diapers, and 87 refugees resettled.
