Montana State Parks Cultural and Heritage Park Steward

Serve under the “Big Sky,” Protect Montana’s Treasures, Tell Its Stories! Montana State Park AmeriCorps Cultural and Historical Stewards will step back in time at our many cultural and historic parks while protecting these special places for future generations. Members will connect with Montana’s storied past and diverse cultures and share Big Sky Country’s significant heritage with visitors. From awe inspiring buffalo jumps to ghost towns to following the trail of explorers Lewis and Clark, our members will ensure that Montana’s cultural parks remain significant, accessible, and relevant to local, national and international visitors. Our members will receive training and experiences in park management and accomplish tasks that go far beyond entry level park positions through our four main program goals: enhancing park land, enriching educational opportunities, building volunteer capacity and strengthening community outreach in state parks. They will create educational programs; organize community events within and outside the parks and develop volunteer opportunities that engage people in learning about and preserving the state’s amazing history and cultures. Members will engage in a wide variety of park-related activities, such as developing interpretive trails; hosting historical and cultural tours and field trips; preserving graveyards; recruiting and training volunteer educators; restoring historic structures; cataloging artifacts; conducting major events highlighting our cultural and historic resources. Our service terms take place amid the stunning scenery, dazzling waters, geologic wonders, and cultural history of Montana State Parks. These parks are located throughout the state and members will serve at individual parks according to their preferences and skills.
