Clark County AmeriCorps 4-H Grows Here Project

The Clark County AmeriCorps 4-H Grows Here Project and its Members are responsive to two large, identified problems: 1) youth lack the opportunities that prepare them to lead in life and career, especially in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM); and 2) youth attending school in one of the lowest ranking school systems in the nation, resulting in having low academic achievement. The 4-H intervention focuses on EDUCATION as Nevada faces a tremendous opportunity – educating youth to be prepared for the 21st-century workforce. The ability to expand economic development, maximize opportunities for youth, and sustain growth is dependent upon students who have both the technical skills and soft skills to succeed in careers and life. Members provide interventions to youth ages 5-19 to do just that.

Member Duties : The 4-H Community Development AmeriCorps Members will facilitate 4-H workshops at community centers, libraries, schools, and other locations to deliver 4-H curriculum and lessons, and also develop relationships that will eventually lead to long-standing 4-H clubs and/or Special Interest (SPIN) programming. Youth who participate in 4-H clubs are four times more likely to give back to their communities, two times more likely to make healthier choices, and two times more likely to participate in STEM activities, according to national research. Members will lead the development and initial chartering of 4-H clubs. They will build the infrastructure within the club by recruiting members and volunteers within the surrounding community who will eventually serve as club leaders or SPIN leaders.
