UG: Violence Prevention AmeriCorps VISTA
Join the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas AmeriCorps VISTA Program. The Unified Government (UG) has made a commitment to civic innovation, job creation, economic development, and the health of Wyandotte County residents - and our members are contributing in big ways! The VISTA will support MOCSA’s Wyandotte County Sexual Assault Prevention Coalition’s efforts to implement and sustain community violence prevention strategies. The coalition is working to develop and implement innovative prevention programming that meets the needs and realities of residents and community, through reducing neighborhood violence, improving connection among neighbors, increasing gender equity, and addressing cultural norms around violence. The ideal candidate will have •Comfort and/or experience working with community members. •Strong self-motivation while working independently.•A basic understanding of or interest in the field of sexual abuse and assault prevention. •Ability to perform administrative, computer-based tasks. •Interest in public health issues. •Must have a driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle. •Clear criminal and child abuse background screen. •Strong interpersonal and problem solving skills.

Member Duties : The Violence Prevention AmeriCorps VISTA will: Assist in coalition development, including meeting planning, partner follow-up, record keeping, and reporting. Lead implementation of community projects in alignment with violence prevention goals. The VISTA will contribute to the ongoing sustainability of the prevention programming through evaluation of programming and the creation of materials and media to support the ongoing success of the coalition. Work with MOCSA staff to expand knowledge of residents and coalition partners of the scope and goals of the violence prevention plan, and build community investment in its ongoing success. Assist in program evaluation in conjunction with MOCSA staff and partners, and participate in subsequent updates and revisions of coalition strategies. Create outreach materials, videos, webinars, or social media that will support ongoing community-level violence prevention programs.
