Claremont Learning Partnership Community Assessment VISTA

Claremont Learning Partnership works to increase literacy and educational access and attainment in the Claremont community. The city of Claremont has a population of 12,967, of which 6.4% are under the age of five and 13.8% are between the ages of five and 18. Claremont graduates 88% of its students, but only 19.5% of high school graduates take advantage of higher educational opportunities. The per capita income in Claremont is $26,639, with 32.6% of residents having income that falls under 200% of the federal poverty level. Our programming includes a Child Care Center, Little Free Libraries and Oasis, a teen shelter and support program. Oasis will serve the most vulnerable, low-income transitional aged youth (ages 16-21) in Claremont and the surrounding towns by providing them with access to basic needs such as shelter, food, clothing, education, bathing facilities, laundry facilities, and wrap around supports.

The VISTA will develop and distribute materials providing information about services and benefits available to homeless youth and will provide the homeless youth in the area with the information necessary to access outreach services.
