Community Engagement & Outreach VISTA - SE Ohio FB

The Southeast Ohio Foodbank, a HAPCAP program, is a dynamic non-profit that works to end hunger in Southeast Ohio. We mobilize food, support, and resources to create a lifeline for people in need and to increase community access to healthy food. We are a distribution center and community hub that collects and distributes government-funded, donated, and purchased food to our member agencies in our 10 county service area. Our network of member agencies operate programs such as food pantries, hot meal sites, shelters, and other hunger-relief programs. Our Regional Kitchen prepares meals for Meals on Wheels, Senior Congregate dining, Head Start meals, and Summer meals. Additionally, we have a team of Community Health Specialists who work on Food is Medicine initiatives: they deliver food boxes and offer wraparound services to individuals in our communities who are pregnant, new parents, or have chronic conditions. We also operate the HAPCAP for Health Market, a choice-based, supermarket-style food pantry and community resource hub that provides dignified access to nutritious food while connecting neighbors to supportive services.

Member Duties : The Southeast Ohio Foodbank, a Hocking Athens Perry Community Action (HAPCAP), serves a 10-county region totaling 4,000 square miles. This region is home to high poverty and food insecurity rates exacerbated by access barriers, such as transportation, limited pantry hours, and a lack of resource consolidation. Our challenge is to reach neighbors where they are by supporting and empowering our member pantries and getting our programs out into the communities. As our VISTA member, your role will be to address community needs around accessibility and economic mobility by strengthening the HAPCAP for Health Market and Training Hub in three areas: workforce development, Community-driven assessments, and a Volunteer Training Program. You will formalize our workforce development programs, as well as volunteer roles and responsibilities. Join our team to play a meaningful part in combatting food insecurity! **Benefits include a monthly $200 housing stipend to supplement living costs.**
