GSWCF Outreach Program

The Girl Scouts of West Central Florida, Inc. (GSWCF): GSWCF provides a safe, girl-only space where girls K-12 can develop their leadership skills through age-appropriate activities enabling them to discover their values and the world around them; connect with others in a multicultural environment;and take action to make a difference in their communities. The success of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE) is that its' learning model is based on Girl Scouts' historic commitment to leadership, insight drawn from best practices in youth development and education, and its own organizational research and girl expertise. The curriculum is research based and the content of all Girl Scout national proficiency badges and journeys is correlated by grade level to national Common Core Standards, 21st Century Skills standards, Financial Literacy education standards, and curriculum such as Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies. The GSLE curriculum itself is evidence-based and includes focus areas such as healthy living, STEM, financial literacy, career exploration, and leadership development. Girls develop a strong sense of self by exploring topics such as integrity, accountability and self-esteem, they cultivate positive attitudes by learning about problem solving, stress management and gratitude), they seek challenges in the world by exploring citizenship, leadership and goal setting. They also nurture healthy relationships by improving communication skills, empathy and forgiveness and they set out to solve community problems through diversity, innovation and action. They do all this through processes that ensure program activities achieve maximum impact for girls, which include: 1) activities are girl-led; 2) girls learn by doing; and 3) girls engage in cooperative learning.
