Stewards VISTA: Friends of Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks
The Friends of Organ Mountains Desert Peaks committed to breaking down the barriers that many in our community face when attempting to spend time in the outdoors. We are committed to removing those barriers and creating a community where all can enjoy our vast and diverse public lands. We are also committed to educating our community on the conservation principals that drive our work. The Friends work with diverse partners with the state nationally and across the border in Mexico. The VISTA will assist us in strengthen these partnerships. The VISTA will work with our community to understand the interests of the diverse stakeholders and communities. Through community outreach and education components the VISTA will enhance the organizations efforts to engage diverse communities to address their concerns. The VISTA will support the Friends efforts to build strategic partnerships, build membership, and through development and grant writing to support programs that impact the Friends. Through our efforts we will engage our community through volunteer opportunities as well as the many groups and organizations we partner with to conduct on the ground activities. This project will help build our organization providing much needed staff time to focus on our restoration projects and work with new stakeholders including the agriculture and ranching communities as well as expand partnerships with our tribes and pueblos in New Mexico. The Friends will work to engage foundations and grants opportunities to fully fund this position for future years. We will engage our membership base as well to fund this program for future years.
