Brown University SEG Program Development VISTA (Spanish)

The Brown University AmeriCorps VISTA Fellowship is a full-time service opportunity hosted through the Swearer Center at Brown University. Founded by Brown University President, Howard R. Swearer, The Swearer Center for Public Service is a community of scholars, students, practitioners, and community members that work together to build on community strengths and address community challenges. Through the creative capacities of our students, faculty, and community partners we explore, build, and implement collaborative and strategic projects, programs, and initiatives. Our work yields transformative learning and positive sustainable change through collective action. Interested applicants apply for a VISTA position at a local partner organization, state agency, or Swearer Center department to build capacity in organizations fighting poverty. These agencies work in the education, health, arts and/or economic justice sector. Current external Brown University AmeriCorps VISTA placement sites include: Beat the Streets Providence, Breakthrough Providence, House of Hope Community Development Corporation, Inspiring Minds, Providence After School Alliance, Providence Public Library, Social Enterprise Greenhouse, and Youth In Action. The Social Enterprise Greenhouse (SEG) Spanish Language Program Development VISTA member will develop outreach plan to broaden SEG's reach among community-based organizations and stakeholders in Spanish speaking communities. Under the supervision of the Program Director and Communications Director, the VISTA will work with SEG staff to increase scale and reach in Spanish-speaking communities and under-served, marginalized populations in order to support poverty alleviation through social enterprise. The VISTA will also partner with other sites to support the launch of Spanish-language programming in Providence to improve the effectiveness of SEG’s mission and ensure awareness and engagement with Spanish-speaking communities in Providence.
