Center Against Sexual & Family Violence Dev. VISTA, OneStar

Today, we are the largest dual-service (sexual assault & family violence) agency along the entire U.S./Mexico Border serving over 3,500 victims of sexual and family violence every year. Each year the emergency shelter houses nearly 900 people of which 60% are children. The Center Against Sexual & Family Violence (CASFV) not only meets the challenges of domestic violence, but also has grown as a place where families can "learn to live again" and function as a healthy family unit. The goal of the AmeriCorps VISTA project is to ensure that CASFV can lift the local community of domestic violence and sexual assault survivors out of poverty by increasing the fundraising capacity of the agency. 89% CASFV clients have incomes 30% of median income, qualifying them as "extremely" low income. The VISTA will focus on fund development, community volunteer recruitment and management in order to support and expand quality services to survivors of family violence and sexual assault.
