Programming & Development Coord. VISTA (St. Louis)

Gateway to the Great Outdoors (GGO) provides equitable access to environmental education for underserved students across the U.S., empowering them with a unique blend of mentorship, academic support, and hands-on learning. Through GGO, students gain scientific literacy and a connection to their local natural environment via three integrated components: weekly STEAM-based classroom enrichment, monthly outdoor experiences that reinforce classroom learning, and year-round mentoring by local university students and community members. This holistic approach enables students not only to learn about the natural world but also to develop leadership skills and confidence with the support of dedicated mentors, enhancing their academic growth and environmental awareness.

Member Duties : As GGO’s VISTA, you’ll work closely with the St. Louis City Director to recruit, train, and support volunteers who bring GGO’s mission to life. You’ll focus on building a strong mentor network, creating systems for volunteer support, and enhancing recruitment efforts to ensure mentors have the resources they need to support students attending Title 1 schools and living in low-income communities.
