Homelessness Services Liaison-Good Samaritan Haven/VHCB

Good Samaritan Haven: Montpelier, Barre, Berlin and Barre Town, Vermont Gandhi said: “The best way to find yourself is by losing yourself in service to others”. Good Samaritan Haven has sheltered the homeless for 35 years. We are Central Vermont’s only shelter program for individuals. Service to others is at the heart of our mission. Throughout the COVID-19 crisis Good Sam served the homeless in safe and innovative ways. Now we are expanding our services. Join our service team. Turn your values into compassionate action. Good Samaritan Haven’s mission is to provide emergency shelter and support services, and offers stability, safety and hope for people experiencing homelessness. We expect to operate in three locations and provide street outreach services in Central Vermont in 2022-23. Learn and serve through engagement with unhoused individuals and shelter guests, in coordination with our staff and community partners. • Requires a minimum of 915 hours for an average of 40 hours per week from March 1st through August 11th. Member will receive a living allowance of $13,500 (pre-tax), and an education award of $3,247.50 (pre-tax) upon successful completion of service.Other benefits include health insurance, federal school loan forbearance, and various training and networking opportunities. Member Duties : ¿ Meet, listen to & get to know individuals that use our shelter services. ¿ Share stories and photographs of shelter guests (as permitted) to inform and inspire the community. ¿ Support guests with applications for housing and employment. Provide resource support and referrals. ¿ Interface with other service providers to lower barriers to access; have knowledge of different services available in the community. ¿ Perform shelter guest support functions including answering phones and doors, conducting tours, orienting new guests. ¿ Assist with recruiting, training, and utilizing volunteers to provide meals and overnight shelter supervision as needed. ¿ Provide community outreach, including social media updates. ¿ Acknowledging and thanking shelter volunteers and supporters. ¿ Participate in VHCB AmeriCorps Events & Program Initiatives.
