MENTOR Mentoring Connector VISTA

We aim to close the mentoring gap and drive equity through quality mentoring relationships for young people. MENTOR will accomplish this work through four strategic pillars. 1. Prioritizing Quality: MENTOR ensures that leading-edge research, field-based evidence, community insights, and effective training converge to increase, sustain, and evaluate the quality and effectiveness of mentoring relationships for young people. 2. Ensuring Local Field Leadership: MENTOR strengthens and expands local mentoring leadership to identify innovations and systemic solutions to ultimately provide the access and capacity necessary to drive increased quality mentoring relationships for young people and strengthen communities. 3. Expanding the Movement: MENTOR accelerates and influences public will to drive civic engagement, mentor recruitment, social change, and public/private investment that deliver the relationships necessary for young people. 4. Influencing Systems: We know that in order to harness the full potential of mentoring relationships -- and to scale -- we must meet people where they are and integrate relationship-based solutions into the systems they are navigating. The Mentoring Connector is the only national database of local mentoring programs that helps quality youth mentoring programs across the country recruit more volunteers while greatly increasing visibility for their organizations. Anyone interested in becoming a mentor can search for mentoring opportunities by zip code, ages of youth served, and program type to find and contact programs that interest them. Each year, potential volunteers looking for mentoring opportunities complete more than 100,000 searches in this system. Our national partners including the NBA, the Obama Foundation through the My Brother’s Keeper Alliance, Nike, LinkedIn, and others use this database on their website to support mentoring and recruit volunteer mentors.
