Safe Routes to Health - Corewell Health

The Safe Routes to Health AmeriCorps program (SRTH) at Michigan Fitness Foundation connects Michiganders to health, wellness, and physical activity resources in their communities. SRTH members at Beaumont Health serve the broader Southeastern Michigan region as Community Engagement Liaisons, focusing on chronic disease prevention and management through education and services that support healthy eating, active living, and maintaining a healthy weight as well as increased opportunities for physical activity. Each member is assigned a site supervisor who provides mentorship, supervision, and access to professional development opportunities at the host site. Members also participate in ongoing professional development, team-building, and at least two outside/group service activities with the SRTH statewide team. Members will receive training in a variety of areas to support service projects, gain valuable skills, and real-world experience. Members serve 450 hours over 5 months. Current service locations with Beaumont Health include: Trenton, Taylor, Royal Oak, Troy & Wayne. Some larger team meetings would take place at the Southfield office. NOTE: Service activities may be partially or fully remote during the COVID-19 pandemic, this is subject to change as new guidance is issued. TO APPLY: please complete the application linked here and email your resume and cover letter to the Program Director listed. In your cover letter, indicate the service location(s) you would prefer to serve.

Member Duties : Members serve as local champions in their community, promoting health, wellness, nutrition, and physical activity to residents at all ages of life by engaging in five program elements: planning and implementing nutrition education interventions inspired by national Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education (SNAP-Ed) work, advancing local food systems, promoting active lifestyles, engaging communities through outreach, and supporting local COVID-19 responses. SRTH members at Beaumont Health engage with local partners and coalitions to educate and promote nutrition, physical activity, and overall wellness in settings like farmers markets, libraries, food pantries, and community parks. Members will participate in scheduled AmeriCorps days of service, trainings, and professional development.
