Events and Education Specialist - SASH@WHA/VHCB
 
 
 
Create programs that make it possible to retain quality of life at higher care facilities through strengthening resident’s health, both physical and mental. This position will support the Support and Services at Home (SASH) program at Winooski Housing Authority. The Events and Education Specialist will support residents who are elderly or non-elderly/disabled who live in a Winooski Housing Authority or Chittenden Housing Corporation building and some local community members enrolled in the SASH program. They will collaborate with SASH staff to determine which events and training programs will best meet the needs of our population. They will coordinate events with presenters from outside of the agency in most cases. Events may include fairs for service providers, education on identified needs (i.e. loneliness, diabetes, heart disease) and some social gatherings. This position is part of the Vermont Housing & Conservation Board AmeriCorps (VHCB AmeriCorps). The VHCB AmeriCorps program supports the innovative dual-goal approach to creating stable affordable housing opportunities for Vermont residents while preserving the natural and working landscape. This position is Full Time: Requires 1720 hours for an average of 40 hours per week for 47 weeks. Member will receive a living allowance of $30,500(pre-tax) for the service term. Member will receive an education award of $7,395 (pre-tax) upon successful completion of service. Member Duties : ·Collaborate with SASH staff to identify participant needs and assist in planning and coordinating bi-monthly events and activities ·Coordinate fairs for seniors where benefit providers may provide information and address questions. Agencies may include AgeWell, Department of Disabilities, Aging, and Independent Living (DAIL). · Plan and host residential events focused on safety in partnership with municipal first responders. ·Coordinate social gatherings and events for residents based on interest. ·Greet residents, assess needs, and direct them to the appropriate staff member. ·Assist with property wide social events for residents. ·Assist with the monthly newsletter for residents. ·Participate in an Independent Service Project under the guidance of VHCB AmeriCorps. ·Participate in all VHCB AmeriCorps Program Initiatives & outreach activities to promote AmeriCorps. ·Engage in professional and personal development activities and networking opportunities.
