United South End Settlement VISTA Project

United South End Settlements (USES) is a 127-year-old community-based nonprofit whose mission is to harness the power of our diverse community to disrupt the cycle of poverty for children and their families. We believe that as families stabilize, become more resilient, and connect to a diverse network, they and their children are more likely to develop the skills they need to succeed and break the cycle of poverty. Our newly developed long-term goals are to increase resources (including income and assets), resilience (social-emotional/soft skills and confidence), and relationships (with neighbors from diverse backgrounds) for children and their families. USES is now implementing Vision125, a five-year plan (FY18-22) to transform our programming into a two-generation model that strategically serves children and parents together to achieve whole family impact. Our program model is comprehensive, multi-dimensional, and supports the whole family: -We provide children with quality education and enrichment opportunities through Early childhood education, after school programming, and a summer sleepaway camp in New Hampshire. These opportunities foster personal development, prepare children for success in school and beyond, and enable them to develop diverse relationships that open new opportunities. -We work with parents and caregivers to develop their capacity to reach goals around education, career, finances, family, or community connections through one-on-one coaching, and help them move towards economic stability through job training and income supports screenings.
