VYT-ACT Resource Development & Volunteer Coordinator

PROGRAM: The VT Youth Tomorrow AmeriCorps VISTA Program supports initiatives helping low-income youth & families develop job skills & academic proficiency, build connection to their community, access health & mental health care, find housing, become food secure, and connect with essential services needed to transcend poverty, avoid unhealthy behaviors, reverse the impacts of COVID-19, and ultimately thrive. Website: www.vermontyouthamericorps.org SITE: Addison Central Teen’s (ACT) Teen Center provides afterschool and summer support to teens 12-18, including adult mentorship and guidance; access to nutritious meals; a safe and substance-free space to gather; support groups for BIPOC teens and teens experiencing mental health issues; fun recreational activities; life skills workshops, such as financial literacy and healthy cooking; and other content to support teens, who are low-income or considered at-risk, transition out of poverty and into a healthy adulthood. ACT strives to create a space where teens feel they are important and learn to be a thriving part of their local community. ACT also runs a low-cost summer camp program, aimed at providing new experiences to low-income youth, allowing them to broaden their horizons. The VISTA member procures resources, recruits and manages volunteers, and develops community partnerships making high-quality, comprehensive, and inclusive programming possible. The member is part of a small team making big things happen for youth and the community. COVID-19: ACT works with local schools on educational recovery, as well as local mental health organizations to help students bounce back from the strain of the pandemic. The VISTA member’s service directly helps us find funding for and volunteers to lead these projects. The VISTA member builds capacity at ACT so that we’re able to continue expanding programs to help our community recover and support those living in poverty.
