Puerto Rico Sustainable Community - Based Tourism, Luquillo
 
 
 
The Puerto Rico Tourism Company is an agency that promotes the economic development of the island; and, it is our interest to encourage the development of modalities to diversify the offer and position the island as an attractive sustainable destination. However, for the development to be perennial, it should be framed under the elements of sustainability. The Puerto Rico Tourism Company has carefully developed the Sustainable Community Tourism Program through anti-poverty initiatives in which communities with valuable natural resources that are feasible for eco/agro tourism activities are identified and provided with the appropriate tools for the development of sustainable projects. The program seeks the development of short, medium, and long-term plans on how to create green jobs and microenterprises based on the natural service of area. In order to meet these purposes strengthening each organization and making them self-sustainable is required. For this reason, it is fundamentally relevant to develop a capacity- building core in each community organization which is the key for its progress and success.

Member Duties : Some of the work that it is proposed for the VISTA member includes, but it is not limited to: writing proposals; establishing a structure for fundraising activities; identification and development of alliance with local businesses to create a solidary economy, and a potential creation of a tourism circuit; development of a promotional web page including reservation and payment systems; marketing strategies with social media; development of the accountability and administrative system for the tourism offers.
