UACE Pima County Wildcat Marathoner Member
The Wildcat Marathoner’s program will engage local school children through a walking/running program to promote a healthy, active lifestyle. Participating schools will set up a walking/running club at their school with a goal of meeting at least once a week. The AmeriCorps member will help the club’s supervisor (school staff or parent volunteer), to track laps using punch cards and will receive fitness finder charms as incentives when they reach mileage milestones. The goal is for club participants to complete at least 25.2 miles, one mile short of a marathon distance, before the one-mile FitKidz race at the University of Arizona on the first weekend in February, 2021 (parents, teachers, and administrators are encouraged to participate in this event as well). Our Wildcat Marathoners’ theme will be Heart Healthy! The Wildcat Corps (AmeriCorps) member in this position will provide encouragement to the participants, assist school personnel in tracking miles and distributing incentive items to students, and providing some basic age-appropriate lessons on nutrition, hydration, stretching.
