HubCAP IV Community Engagement VISTA

The WV Community Development Hub (The Hub), in partnership with WVU Extension and the US Forest Service, is hosting the fourth round of its Communities of Achievement Program (HubCAP IV) in the communities of Cowen, Elkins, Franklin, Marlinton, Petersburg and White Sulphur Springs. HubCAP IV is a two-year program that continues support for the six Monongahela National Forest Gateway Communities, who have been working to identify and promote their recreation assets on a local and regional scale through the Monongahela Forest Town Initiative. The program will provide the support and resources for the six communities to establish ongoing community engagement and leadership development processes; identify assets, and gaps and opportunities in the marketability of those assets; prioritize, plan for, and implement priority projects in the communities that will boost the recreation economy; promote the communities and recreation-based assets via branding and marketing initiatives to attract both residents and visitors; build a vibrant, business-friendly community, using the communities’ unique culture, arts, events, infrastructure, beautification and more; recruit and develop businesses to utilize the unique opportunities to support local residents as well as visitors, and develop long-term planning and project execution capacity to enable each community to grow and diversify the communities and economic development activities and impacts.  The HubCAP Community Engagement VISTA member will build the capacity of these six communities by recruiting participants to the program, facilitating relationship building and resource sharing between participants, developing best practices guides for community engagement in the HubCAP program, and more. This is a statewide position, based out of The Hub's office in Grafton, WV. The ideal candidate is an outgoing, self-starter individual who values community development as a means to develop local economies sustainably.
