Foster Youth Initiative AmeriCorps Program

CA Foster Youth Initiative (FYI) is a statewide program administered by the Child Abuse Prevention Center. The FYI program is designed to improve the lives of foster youth by expanding opportunities to achieve their potential. Foster youth are mentored by an AmeriCorps Member who provides education services, life skills support, and attachment to an adult role model, so foster youth will be better prepared for a healthy productive adulthood. FYI’s intervention is mentoring where a meaningful relationship is built between an AmeriCorps member and a foster youth. Together they create goal-oriented tasks to catalyze the academic, social, emotional, cognitive, and identity development of the youth. Members provide individualized support which enhance academic achievement, study habits, daily living skills, job skills, healthy relationships, and financial literacy. Currently serving the following counties: Butte, Contra Costa, Glenn, Kern, Los Angeles, Sacramento, Shasta, Siskiyou, Yolo, and Yuba.
