Foster Youth Initiative AmeriCorps Program
 
 
 
CA Foster Youth Initiative (FYI) is a statewide program administered by the Child Abuse Prevention Center. FYI utilizes AmeriCorps members as Youth Mentors to assist foster youth in achieving academic success and developing life skills necessary for successful transition to adulthood. AmeriCorps members build a meaningful relationship with foster youth and together they work on goal-oriented tasks to catalyze the social, emotional, cognitive, and identity development of the youth. AmeriCorps Members provide foster youth life skills development, academic support, financial literacy education, transition planning, and attachment to an adult role model. Currently serving the following counties: Butte, Glenn, Kern, Los Angeles, Sacramento, Siskiyou, Yolo, and Yuba.

Member Duties : The Foster Youth Mentor AmeriCorps Member will guide foster youth to build skills necessary for a successful transition to adulthood. The member will provide life skills support, mentoring, workshops, and activities to support foster youth. The member will provide academic assistance and financial literacy lessons and will complete assessments and monthly data requirements.
