Literacy Minnesota - Distance Learning project (LitMN)
Literacy—the ability to read, communicate and access information—is critical for navigating the workforce, advocating for oneself and fulfilling basic needs. Literacy Minnesota works to build a more equitable society by making quality literacy education available to all. We are a comprehensive literacy resource, providing free classes for adults and children; supporting literacy organizations through volunteer recruitment, training and teaching tools; and creating new pathways for groups and individuals to reach their full potential. We serve over 1800 adult students per year at our six Learning Centers in St. Paul and Minneapolis, with classes in English language learning, GED and pre-GED, citizenship, computer and job skills. The average poverty rate in the neighborhoods we serve is 22.4%, while the average number of adults without a High School education is 16%. Due to recent shifts in how Minnesota Adult Basic Education (ABE) is able to offer classes (largely because of the COVID-19 pandemic), we are seeing an increased need in the area of Distance Learning. Both educators and learners need assistance accessing and navigating distance learning apps/platforms and procedures. This position would work closely with state and local leaders to build capacity around distance learning programming for adult learners. Join us! *Position is part of the Literacy Leadership AmeriCorps VISTA program of Literacy Minnesota (LitMN), which places about 20 AmeriCorps VISTA members with nonprofits, public agencies and Tribal Nations located in Minnesota and Wisconsin to build their capacity to improve literacy for children, youth, adults or families. Literacy Minnesota fosters an organizational culture that is welcoming and inclusive to all. Applications reviewed on rolling basis until filled. Alternate start dates may be available. More info:
