TSC VISTA 2021: ConnectHome Winnebago
 
 
 
The Service Collaborative (TSC) VISTA Program mobilizes AmeriCorps VISTA members to function in organizations, government agencies and educational institutions. Members focus on expanding educational opportunities, ensuring economic opportunity for all and creating healthy futures for the residents of low income communities. Our goals are to strengthen communities across the state and to allow organizations within them to better provide services to impoverished individuals and families. The Service Collaborative VISTA program has partner organizations in New York State and across the country. During their term of service members will receive support from our VISTA team at The Service Collaborative of WNY. Our support includes monthly trainings, a social network of fellow members and daily support from VISTA leaders.

Member Duties : Winnebago County Housing Authority (WCHA) is a public housing authority that is passionate about providing affordable housing that will enrich the lives of residents and revitalize communities. Through partnership with HUD’s ConnectHome program, WCHA has successfully participated over the last 16 years in many programs addressing the digital divide, to increase resident access to technology, skills, and options for free-to-low cost broadband services. To expand on these programs, the VISTA project will aim to increase education and digital connection resources that create a healthier future for WCHA residents. The VISTA will be working as a Community Liaison to help improve internet connectivity, digital literacy, and financial literacy in our community. The VISTA will accomplish this work through cultivating community partnerships, developing curriculum, expanding on a grants database, recruiting volunteers, and creating pre/post testing for educational classes.
