'20-'21 Community Engagement VISTA at United Way Thurston Co

Since 1936, United Way of Thurston County has been the leader in linking nonprofits with those who want to make a difference in their community. We work in multiple ways. One, we are the catalyst to bring together businesses, government, nonprofits, and community leaders to tackle the systemic issues that prevent breaking the cycle poverty, access to health care, or access to adequate education. Two, we fund nonprofits that create a community where children and families can thrive. Three, we mobilize the caring power of our community to get involved either through a donation of time, money, or expertise. We believe that by Living United, we will mobilize the caring power of our entire community to provide essential help to our neighbors in their time of need. But, more importantly, we will reduce and eliminate the root causes of those needs. The VISTA will be a member of the Greater South Sound VISTA team, made up of 19 other VISTA members and supported by the VISTA Leader, who coordinates professional development opportunities, provides individualized support and resources, and supports the program’s success.

Member Duties : The VISTA will be a critical member of our Community Engagement team. You will evaluate our current efforts to educate, inspire & engage supporters & help design strategies & programming for our new Workplace United program. These strategies aim to reach groups such as women, retirees & business leaders, build relationships with stakeholders & strengthen partnerships with nonprofits. The VISTA will build capacity to mobilize our community through high-quality, customized engagement opportunities. Increasing our ability to inform, engage & inspire our community will expand our capacity to reach people. We can then increase our ability to move the needle on alleviating poverty by investing in nonprofits that are addressing the causes of poverty & serving those currently in need. Through the VISTA project, we will build the strategies & systems we will employ to mobilize the caring power of our community to fight for the health, education & financial stability of people in Thurston County
